Welcome to Greenwood-Leflore Consolidated School District Food Service Department

The Greenwood-Leflore Consolidated School District will operate the Seamless Summer Operation (SSO) for the 2021-2022 school year. The SSO Program will not affect the meal eligibility of any child / student that is enrolled in the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District.

What does this mean for you and your children attending the school(s) in the Greenwood-Leflore Consolidated School District?

It is great news for you and your students !

All enrolled students in the Greenwood-Leflore Consolidated School District are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the 2021-2022 school year. No further action is required of you. Your child(ren) will be able to participate in the meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application.

Due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) which has ultimately resulted in a pandemic that has affected the entire world, the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District will continue to provide meals to all enrolled students. The food service department has procedures that will ensure the safety of our students, staff, faculty and administrators. In addition, the food service department will adhere to the safety procedures required by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Office of Child Nutrition and the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH). All food service staff will be required and expected to follow these procedures.

To support the relationship between student health and academic achievement, the 2014 Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards (Standard 17.5.1) and the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA) requires each local school to establish a local school wellness policy. Mississippi Code of 1972, Annotated Section 37-13-134 requires the recommendations made by a school health council to be based on a coordinated approach to school health. This document seeks to satisfy these requirements.

The following minimum requirements are established by federal legislation. Specifically, federal legislation requires:

  • Goals for nutrition education, physical activity, and other school-based activities that are designed to promote student wellness in a manner that the local education agency determines is appropriate;
  • Nutrition guidelines selected by the local educational agency for all foods available on each school campus under the local educational agency during the school day with the objectives of promoting student health and reducing childhood obesity;
  • Assurances that guidelines for reimbursable school meals are not less restrictive than the regulations issued by the USDA;
  • Ways of measuring how well the school wellness policy is being implemented, including the designation of one or more persons at each school with operational responsibility for ensuring that the school is meeting the policy;
  • Involvement of parents, students, representatives of the school food authority, the school board and school administrators, and the public, in developing the wellness policy.

Any stakeholder of the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District can assist in the development of the district's Wellness Plan. If you are interested in participating in this process, you may call (662)-374-7070 ext.1839 to express your interest.

Representatives from the district and the community who comprise the Wellness Committee met to review, revise, assess and identify strategies to ensure implementation of the 2019/2020 Wellness Plan. This plan received approval at the November 4, 2019, board meeting and will be re-examined in three years as required by the Office of Child Nutrition
